From my branch above the water,
I rest my head and jump if I ought to.
For there are times when other animals come near,
Hoping for an iguana-steak to sear.
I have eyes that see very well indeed,
If they see something ominous I dive into the water with great speed.
Swimming is so much fun, I’m sure you’ll agree,
I dive, I flip, I glide and feel happy.
After my swim I need something delicious to eat,
I have fruit and plenty of leaves that fall at my feet.
My name is Izzy and I am an Iguana.
Have a look for me next time you’re in Ghana.
I’ll say hello with my eyes, which I can move very fast,
And I’d love to say hello to you as you walk past!
